Thunder Laser Bolt has received genuine praise from users, and Mr. Richard Arenaro shared a detailed review in our fan group. His perspective covers the complete experience, from research and purchase to delivery, setup, performance, support, and daily use.
With his consent, we are sharing this firsthand review to help other makers, hobbyists, and potential buyers better understand what the Thunder Laser Bolt is like in real-world use.
“I feel the need to write this because it is often the case that we are compelled to document issues and displeasure with products and companies, but take a more measured approach when encountering something truly unique.”
1. Researching the Thunder Laser Bolt
Richard’s journey with Thunder Laser began with extensive research before purchasing the Bolt desktop laser. Like many buyers, he explored Facebook groups, watched YouTube videos, and privately messaged users who were willing to answer questions.
His research into real-world experiences with Thunder Laser and the Bolt ranged from very positive to highly enthusiastic. Although there were not dozens of Bolt video reviews available, the reviews that did exist felt genuine rather than promotional.
Richard describes himself as a creative hobbyist and tinkerer rather than a laser professional or a business owner who depends on a laser. However, product quality, honest marketing, and support after the sale are extremely important to him. He also had previous experience with xTool’s P2, S1, and F1 lasers, which gave him a useful point of comparison.
2. Purchase and Delivery Experience
In late November 2023, Richard decided to purchase the Thunder Laser Bolt. The sales process required a session with a Thunder Laser professional. At first, he thought he simply wanted to order the laser without a meeting, but he later described the call as a valuable part of the experience.
During the call, the Thunder Laser representative discussed the intended use of the machine, engraving and cutting capabilities, and the details Richard had been researching on his own. The conversation lasted about 15 to 20 minutes and left him feeling that the team genuinely cared about his purchase.
After the call, he received a quote and placed the order. Although the delivery was originally expected at the end of January 2024, he received an email on Christmas Day stating that the Bolt had shipped. The email included tracking information along with links for setup, product familiarization, support, and shipping contacts.
The Bolt arrived on January 3, 2024, almost one month ahead of schedule. Richard noted that the crate arrived in excellent condition and that both the freight company and driver handled the delivery well.
3. Unboxing and Setup
Richard described the packaging as intentionally designed, made from quality materials, and built to protect the machine during transit. The wood pallet added stability, and the unboxing process was straightforward: clip the strapping, lift the box, remove the packing, and lift the Bolt with two people.
3.1 First Impressions of Build Quality
Before discussing setup, Richard emphasized that the Bolt’s clean design and build quality exceeded what he expected from videos and online comments. He was impressed by the doors, access points, honeycomb tray, and overall construction.
He also appreciated the internal cable organization. The cables for the rails, gantry, and camera were properly sized, tied, and arranged so cleanly that they were barely noticeable.
3.2 Simple Setup Process
The Bolt setup was described as simple and well supported by videos and documentation. Richard noted that users do not need to configure lasers, align mirrors, run laser fire tests, or assemble major components.
With the Thunder Laser Bolt, he unpacked the machine, clipped the restrainer ties, plugged it in, followed the instructions for configuring LightBurn, and connected it to his computer. As a Mac user, he used the recommended Ethernet connection for the machine and the included USB cable for the camera.
4. Quality, Design, and Serviceability
Richard stated that while the xTool P2 is a good machine, he felt the Thunder Laser Bolt was on another level in terms of build quality and design. He especially valued how accessible the Bolt is for maintenance and servicing.
Every area of the Bolt that may need servicing has its own access panel and is easy to reach. Components are clean, organized, and identifiable. In comparison, Richard found the P2’s internal access more difficult, especially when trying to reach the laser tube area.
He highlighted the Bolt’s all-metal construction, secure key-based entry system, and accessible laser cover. In his view, thoughtful access design makes routine cleaning and maintenance easier, which can also support safer long-term use.
Richard also appreciated the Bolt’s practical feature choices, including proof-based focusing and the camera. He noted that while not every user may use a camera, he prefers having the option and deciding based on his own workflow.
5. Thunder Laser Bolt Performance
Richard was impressed by both the engraving and cutting performance of the Thunder Laser Bolt. He described its engraving as clean, detailed, and fast, while also noting that its cutting ability was stronger than expected based on the amount of pre-purchase information available.
5.1 Laser Engraving
Richard described the engraving results in two words: absolutely stunning. Even as a hobbyist, he found the difference striking, with cleaner, more detailed, and much faster engraving compared with his previous experience.
He also praised the internal exhaust system, noting that it worked efficiently and left him wondering where the smoke had gone. Compared with his P2 experience, he found that the Bolt produced less smoke and residual soot in his workflow.
5.2 Laser Cutting
Cutting performance had been one of Richard’s main concerns before delivery because many reviews focused more heavily on engraving. After using the machine, he described the Bolt’s cutting performance as fantastic.
In his real-world use, the Bolt cut 3 mm MDF and plywood cleaner and faster than his P2. He also tested 6 mm material at lower speeds and was pleased with the result. Acrylic cutting was also described as clean and reliable, with less airflow-related back flash and cleaner cuts compared with his previous experience.

6. Other Key Considerations
Beyond performance, Richard also shared his experience with support, venting, rotary accessories, maintenance, cost, and areas where he would like to see future improvements.
6.1 Support
Richard described Thunder Laser support as one of the best support infrastructures he has experienced with any product, not just lasers. He said response times were often measured in minutes rather than hours or days.
He also appreciated that the staff focused not only on solving the immediate problem, but also on helping him understand the topic. His support interactions included questions related to camera calibration.
6.2 Venting
Because Richard could not vent outside, a fume extractor was his only option. Thunder Laser worked with him and connected him with Filtrabox. He purchased a Filtrabox Micro and reported that it worked perfectly for his use, with no smoke or smell.
He noted that results can vary depending on usage, and some users may need a larger Filtrabox model depending on their applications. For his situation, the Micro was a spot-on recommendation.
6.3 Rotary Units
Richard reported great success using rotary accessories for tumbler engraving. He used a Piburn grip made for Bolt and the Roko Tray, and the setup worked smoothly.
6.4 Maintenance
Because the Bolt is easily accessible in all relevant areas, Richard found cleaning simple and effective. In his use, dusting, air blowing, wipe-downs, and lens cleaning have been straightforward.
6.5 Cost and Value
Richard felt that the value of the Thunder Laser Bolt compared with competing options was clear in the machine build, design choices, useful features, and support experience. He also noted that the quoted price was what he paid, with no added tax or shipping costs.
6.6 Areas for Improvement
Richard did not identify any machine-related changes he would make. However, he would like to see more video reviews focused on cutting performance and a stronger social media presence to help answer common buyer questions.
He also suggested making the website more user-friendly and consumer-focused, especially by making the knowledge center, accessories area, and parts purchasing paths easier to find and navigate.
7. Conclusion
Richard’s conclusion was direct: if someone is on the fence about buying the Thunder Laser Bolt, he believes they will not be disappointed. His personal time with the Bolt and his experience with Thunder Laser were exceptional.
“What I expected was a really good product. What I got was a truly exceptional end-to-end experience that far exceeded my expectations.”
