Introduction

Are you still looking for what you can make with a laser cutter?

Try making a small wooden lampshade from plywood. This project uses laser cutting to create clean wooden pieces that can be assembled into a decorative lampshade.

The design includes a Chinese character that represents good fortune, making the finished piece suitable for home decoration, festive displays, or meaningful handmade gifts.

Before your work begins

Clean the lens and mirrors
Check the laser head and nozzle for dust or buildup
Ensure ventilation and air assist are working properly
Confirm the machine is running smoothly and normally

Operational Process

STEP01

Prepare & Position the Plywood

Place the 4.5mm plywood sheet flat on the laser working table and make sure the surface is clean and stable.

Secure the plywood if needed so it does not shift during cutting. The design should also be adjusted according to the actual type and size of the material before processing.

STEP02

Import & Adjust the Design File

Design the wooden lampshade file in CorelDraw, then send it to the laser software using the laser plug-in.

Input the cutting parameters, check the processing mode, and download the file to the laser cutter. The settings are only for reference, so users should test to find the best settings for their own material and machine.

STEP03

Set the Correct Laser Focus

Move the laser head to the correct starting position and adjust the focal distance before cutting.

After focusing, press the Origin button to set the starting point. Accurate focusing helps achieve cleaner edges and more reliable cutting results on plywood.

Use the Frame function to check the cutting area and confirm that the lampshade design stays within the plywood sheet.

Once everything is aligned, press Start to run the laser cutting job. Stay near the machine and monitor the cutting process carefully.

STEP05

Post Processing

After the laser finishes cutting, take out the wooden pieces carefully and check whether all parts are fully cut through.

Assemble the pieces together to complete the good fortune wooden lampshade. Once assembled, it is ready for display or decoration.
