Introduction

A wooden wall lantern is a simple way to add warm light and natural texture to your space.

With laser cutting, you can turn 3mm plywood into a decorative wall lantern with clean cut-out patterns and a handcrafted look.

This project is perfect for home decor, hallway lighting, event decoration, or anyone who wants to try a practical laser cut wood project.

Before your work begins

Make sure the Thunder Bolt is connected and operating normally
Prepare a clean and flat 3mm plywood sheet
Check the exhaust system and air assist before cutting wood
Use pins or magnets if the plywood is slightly warped or uneven

Operational Process

STEP01

Prepare & Position the Material

Place the 3mm plywood flat on the laser work bed. Make sure the board is clean, stable, and not warped.

If needed, use pins or magnets to keep it from moving during cutting.

STEP02

Import & Adjust the Design File

Import the wooden wall lantern design into your laser software.

Adjust the size to match your plywood sheet and check that all cut lines are correctly positioned. Make sure the slots and connection areas fit the material thickness, especially if your design includes layered panels or a wall-mounted structure.

STEP03

Set the Correct Laser Focus

Set the correct laser focus before cutting.

Good focus helps the laser cut through the plywood cleanly and keeps the pattern edges neat.

STEP04

Frame the Design & Start Laser Cutting

Run the Frame function first to confirm that the full laser cut lantern design fits within the plywood sheet.

Once the frame looks right, start the cutting process. Stay nearby and watch for smoke, flame-ups, or any material shifting.

Post Processing

Remove the cut wooden pieces and clean off any dust or soot from the edges.

Assemble the plywood lantern according to the design, making sure each panel fits securely. If you plan to add light, use an LED candle or LED light source instead of an open flame for safer wall display.

Once finished, your laser cut wooden wall lantern is ready to hang as warm wooden wall decor.
