Introduction

Let’s turn an ordinary stainless steel knife into a Damascus-style statement piece.

Laser marking can create layered, flowing patterns inspired by traditional Damascus steel, adding visual depth and a distinctive finish to a stainless steel knife. It is a creative way to personalize kitchen tools, display pieces, handmade gifts, or custom product designs.

In this tutorial, you will learn how to position the stainless steel knife, import the Damascus-style marking file, set the correct focus, frame the design, and complete a personalized knife with Aurora Lite.

Operational Process

STEP01

Prepare & Position the Stainless Steel Knife

Place the stainless steel knife on the laser bed with the marking surface facing upward.

Make sure the knife is clean, level, and stable before processing. A stable setup helps keep the Damascus-style pattern aligned across the blade surface.

Import & Adjust the Marking File

Load the Damascus-style design into LightBurn software, then adjust the size and position to fit the knife.

Check the pattern placement carefully and make sure the laser marking parameters are set correctly before starting.

STEP03

Set the Correct Laser Focus

Missing the focus is one of the biggest reasons for laser marking failure. Make sure the knife surface is properly focused before processing.

You can use auto focus or manual focus. When the focus is accurate, the marked details will appear cleaner and more consistent on the stainless steel surface.

Frame the Design & Start Laser Marking

Press the frame button and check whether the red light indicates the correct marking area. The frame should be located in the middle of the knife.

If the frame is not aligned, adjust the design position until it fits correctly. After checking, close the laser door and begin the Aurora Lite laser marking process.

Post Processing

Stay near the machine during operation and monitor for unusual sounds or alarms. Avoid looking directly at the laser beam for too long, even when protective measures are in place.

Once laser marking is complete, carefully open the door and remove the Damascus-style stainless steel knife. Clean the marked surface gently before use, display, or gifting.
