Introduction

Are you still looking for what you can make with a laser?

Try customizing a unique rock slate coaster. Slate has a natural texture and a solid feel, making it a great material for practical and decorative tableware.

With laser engraving, you can add names, patterns, logos, or custom artwork to the slate surface and turn a simple coaster into a personalized piece for daily use.

Before your work begins

Clean the lens and mirrors
Check the laser head and nozzle for dust or buildup
Ensure ventilation and air assist are working properly
Confirm the machine is running smoothly and normally

Operational Process

STEP01

Prepare & Position the Slate

Place the rock slate coaster flat on the laser bed and make sure the engraving surface is clean and stable.

Secure the slate if needed so it does not shift during engraving. The design should also be adjusted according to the actual type and size of the material before processing.

Import & Adjust the Design File

Import the rock slate coaster design file into LightBurn, then adjust the size, position, and engraving settings according to the slate surface.

Set the Correct Laser Focus

Accurate focusing is important for clean engraving on rock slate.

If your machine has auto focus, use it for quick setup. For manual focusing, lower the laser head with the focus stick until it reaches the correct working distance from the slate surface.

Use the Frame function to check the engraving area and confirm that the design stays within the rock slate coaster.

Once everything is aligned, start the laser engraving job. Stay near the machine and monitor the process to ensure the engraved details remain clean and even.

Come and Try!

Compared with wood or paper, rock slate is a longer-lasting material and does not absorb moisture as easily.

Even when not in use, a laser-engraved slate coaster can look like a small work of art. Try adding your own creative design to make it truly unique.
