Introduction

Let’s create an exciting laser cutting world map puzzle!

This wooden laser cutting world map puzzle is designed to engage children, students, and geography enthusiasts alike. It provides a hands-on way to learn about world geography while having fun putting the puzzle together.

So, grab your materials, and let’s dive into an enjoyable and educational laser cutting experience!

Before your work begins

Clean the lens and mirrors
Check the laser head and nozzle for dust or buildup
Ensure ventilation and air assist are working properly
Confirm the machine is running smoothly and normally

Operational Process

STEP01

Prepare & Position the Material

Plywood can be flexible, and misalignment may affect the cutting quality. Make sure the 5mm plywood is flat and securely positioned before starting.

Use magnets or pins to hold the plywood in place. Be mindful of their height, because pins or magnets that are too tall may hit the laser sensor during processing.

STEP02

Import & Adjust the Design File

Import the world map puzzle design into LightBurn and check whether your plywood is large enough to accommodate the full map.

For a design with many elements, make sure there are no misalignments or overlaps in the file. Double-check the engraving, scoring, and cutting layers before starting.

Set the Correct Laser Focus

Accurate focusing is important for achieving clear engraving, clean scoring lines, and smooth cutting edges on plywood. If your machine has auto focus, use it for quick setup. For manual focusing, lower the laser head with the focus stick until it touches the plywood surface at the correct angle.

Start Engraving, Scoring & Cutting

Use the Frame function to outline the laser processing area. Make sure the projected frame matches your plywood sheet and the design stays within the material boundary.

Once everything is aligned, start the laser job. Stay near the machine while it’s running and monitor the process carefully, especially because this puzzle includes many detailed parts.
