Introduction

You must have someone deserving thanks too!

Add a sense of ceremony by making a gratitude card for them. This project creates a hollow double-layered card, with the cover forming a beautiful flower silhouette that wraps the contents like an envelope.

Inside, intricate layered patterns and text help express heartfelt appreciation in a more creative and memorable way.

Before your work begins

Clean the lens and mirrors
Check the laser head and nozzle for dust or buildup
Ensure ventilation and air assist are working properly
Confirm the machine is running smoothly and normally

Operational Process

STEP01

Prepare & Position the Material

Prepare two pieces of cardboard and place the first sheet flat on the laser bed. A clean, stable surface helps keep the flower silhouette, hollow details, and engraved text accurate.

Secure the cardboard gently if needed to prevent shifting during engraving and cutting, especially when processing thin edges and delicate layered patterns.

STEP02

Import & Adjust the Design File

Import the thank-you card design file into LightBurn, then adjust the size, position, engraving settings, and cutting settings according to your cardboard.

Double-check the cover silhouette, hollow cutouts, engraved message, and base card alignment before starting. Make sure each layer is correctly positioned.

STEP03

Set the Correct Laser Focus

Accurate focusing is important for achieving clean engraving and precise cutting on cardboard. If your machine has auto focus, use it for quick setup. For manual focusing, lower the laser head with the focus stick until it touches the cardboard surface at the correct angle.

Start Engraving & Cutting

Use the Frame function to outline the laser processing area. Make sure the projected frame matches your cardboard and the card design stays within the material boundary.

Once everything is aligned, start the laser job. Stay near the machine while it’s running and monitor the engraving and cutting process carefully.

Post Processing

When the engraving and cutting are complete, carefully remove the cardboard pieces from the laser bed.

Apply glue on the back of the inner cardboard layer and stick it onto the base card. Then apply glue on the thin edge of the cover layer, align it with the bottom cardstock, and press it firmly to complete the thank-you card.

Come and Try!

Cardstock’s rigidity and workability make it ideal for laser-cut cards. Sharp engraved lines and delicate perforations help turn a simple material into a meaningful handmade message.

A purposeful thank-you card can make gratitude feel lasting and tangible, transforming appreciation from a fleeting feeling into an enduring keepsake.
