Thunder Laser Supports STEAM Education at Chaihuo Makers Space

2017-09-21

At the end of June, a Thunder Laser cutting machine was officially installed at Shenzhen Chaihuo Makers Space as maker space equipment. In July, Thunder Laser held a successful laser training activity at Chaihuo, bringing makers closer to laser cutting, software operation, and STEAM education applications.

This activity strengthened the relationship between Thunder Laser and Chaihuo Makers Space. Both sides reached a shared understanding of working together, making progress together, and supporting future maker education through equipment, technology, and STEAM education tutorials.

About Chaihuo Makers Space

Chaihuo Makers Space is a public-welfare organization where members share knowledge, exchange creative ideas, and collaborate on making. The name Chaihuo carries the meaning of “many hands make light work,” reflecting its open and collaborative spirit.

The space provides a free and open environment for makers, encourages cross-border communication, and supports the process from creative ideas to product realization. Its basic prototype development equipment includes 3D printers, laser cutting machines, electronic development tools, and mechanical processing equipment.

On January 4, 2015, Chinese Premier Li Keqiang visited Chaihuo Makers Space during his visit to Shenzhen and became an honorary member of Chaihuo.

Machine Safety Training for Makers

During the training activity, Thunder Laser Technology Manager Tom and After-sales Engineer Ben used the laser cutting machine as the training object. Ben introduced machine safety knowledge and explained why stable system performance and safe operation are important for both professional and non-professional users.

The training covered several safety-related features of Thunder Laser machines:

  • Visible red dot pointer: helps users clearly understand the laser position.
  • Open cover protection: reduces risks caused by accidental opening during operation.
  • Water cooling and temperature sensing: supports safer machine operation during laser cutting.
  • Status alerts and emergency stop: help users know the running state and stop the machine quickly when needed.
  • Toughened glass and key switch: help improve protection and avoid unintended operation.

LaserMaker Software and Hands-On Practice

Ben also introduced LaserMaker, a laser software developed by Thunder Laser for STEAM education. The software was presented as a friendly and easy-to-use tool for first-time users learning how to work with a laser cutting machine.

Makers at the site learned how to operate the software and use the laser cutting machine in practice. Ben demonstrated the cutting process by making wooden frame glasses and a Mobius strip, helping participants see how laser technology can turn creative ideas into real objects.

Participants also assembled the glasses independently and tried them on during the activity. This hands-on process helped makers better understand the connection between software design, machine operation, and physical creation.

Continuing Cooperation in Maker Education

At the end of the training, participants remained enthusiastic and continued discussing deeper technical questions with the Thunder Laser team, including the principles of laser operation. Thunder Laser’s first machine training activity at Chaihuo Makers Space came to a successful close.

Thunder Laser looks forward to further cooperation with Chaihuo Makers Space and hopes to help more people enter the world of makers through laser technology, STEAM education, and hands-on creation.
