Introduction

Are you still looking for what you can make with a laser?

Try customizing a special wooden-cover notebook for your child. A wooden cover with unique patterns feels creative, durable, and different from ordinary paper covers.

With laser engraving and cutting, you can create small holes, decorative patterns, and custom text on basswood, turning a simple notebook into a meaningful handmade gift.

Before your work begins

Clean the lens and mirrors
Check the laser head and nozzle for dust or buildup
Ensure ventilation and air assist are working properly
Confirm the machine is running smoothly and normally

Operational Process

STEP01

Prepare & Position the Wood

Place the basswood board flat on the laser bed and make sure the surface is clean and stable.

Secure the wood if needed so it does not shift during engraving and cutting. The design should also be adjusted according to the actual type and size of the material before processing.

STEP02

Import & Adjust the Design File

Import the wooden-cover notebook design file into LightBurn, then adjust the size, position, engraving settings, and cutting settings according to the basswood board.

Check the engraved patterns, text, small holes, and cutting lines before starting the laser job.

Set the Correct Laser Focus

Accurate focusing is important for both clean engraving and precise cutting on basswood.

If your machine has auto focus, use it for quick setup. For manual focusing, lower the laser head with the focus stick until it touches the wood surface at the correct angle.

STEP04

Frame the Design and Start Laser Engraving and Cutting

Use the Frame function to check the processing area and confirm that the notebook cover design stays within the basswood board.

Once everything is aligned, start the laser job. Stay near the machine and monitor the engraving and cutting process carefully.
