Introduction

Let's make a wooden card holder!

Drill a hole in the wood plank and secure a screw to clamp down cards with reminders, to-do lists, or other written notes. The laser engraver lets you customize designs and text on the holder itself.

When not in use for displaying notes, your personalized patterns turn it into a decorative desk accessory.

Before your work begins

Clean the lens and mirrors
Check the laser head and nozzle for dust or buildup
Ensure ventilation and air assist are working properly
Confirm the machine is running smoothly and normally

Operational Process

STEP01

Prepare & Position the Material

Prepare a wood plank and place it flat on the laser bed. A stable, even surface helps keep the engraved pattern clear and consistent.

Secure the wood if needed to prevent shifting during engraving, especially when working with text, borders, or small decorative details.

STEP02

Import & Adjust the Design File

Import the wooden card holder file into LightBurn, then adjust the size, position, and engraving settings according to your wood plank.

Double-check the design placement before starting. Make sure the engraved text or pattern is centered and fits the area you want to customize.

Set the Correct Laser Focus

Accurate focusing is important for achieving clear engraving on wood. If your machine has auto focus, use it for quick setup. For manual focusing, lower the laser head with the focus stick until it touches the wood surface at the correct angle.

STEP04

Start Engraving

Use the Frame function to outline the engraving area. Make sure the projected frame matches the wood plank and the design stays within the selected boundary.

Once everything is aligned, start the laser job. Stay near the machine while it’s running and monitor the engraving process carefully.

Post Processing

When the engraving is complete, carefully remove the wood plank from the laser bed.

Drill the pilot hole if needed, then thread the screw into the pre-engraved plank to create the card clamp. Your personalized wooden card holder is ready to display reminders, notes, or cards.

Come and Try!

Imagine carefully threading the screw into the pre-engraved plank as the laser-etched pattern adds character to the finished holder.

Whether it holds urgent reminders or simply decorates your desk, this customized wooden piece brings subtle personal style to any workspace.
