Introduction

Are you still looking for a creative STEAM project for your laser cutter?

Try making a Mobius strip. A Mobius strip is a fascinating structure made by twisting a strip once and connecting the two ends together.

Unlike an ordinary paper loop, it has only one continuous surface. This makes it a great hands-on project for exploring geometry, creativity, and laser cutting in one lesson.

Before your work begins

Clean the lens and mirrors
Check the laser head and nozzle for dust or buildup
Ensure ventilation and air assist are working properly
Confirm the machine is running smoothly and normally

Operational Process

STEP01

Prepare & Position the Plywood

Prepare the plywood for the Mobius strip project and place it flat on the laser working table.

Keep the plywood stable before cutting. The design should also be adjusted according to the actual type and size of the material before processing.

STEP02

Import & Adjust the Design File

Import the design drawing into LaserMaker, then select the corresponding parameters according to the material type and thickness.

After checking the settings, click the Load button to transfer the design to the machine and prepare for laser cutting.

STEP03

Set the Correct Laser Focus

Move the laser head to the correct starting position and adjust the focal distance before cutting.

Accurate focusing helps the plywood cut more cleanly and keeps the Mobius strip shape easier to assemble.

STEP04

Frame the Design & Start Laser Cutting

Press the position button to determine the initial position, then use the border or Frame function to confirm the working area.

Once everything is aligned, press Start/Pause to begin laser cutting. Stay near the machine and monitor the cutting process carefully.

Post Processing

After cutting, twist the strip once and connect the two ends to form a Mobius strip. This creates a continuous one-sided surface.

You can also try an extended activity: glue two Mobius strips together, then cut along the middle to create heart-shaped forms.

Come and Try!

The Mobius strip is a simple but magical STEAM project. It helps students understand surfaces, edges, geometry, and creative design through hands-on making.

With a laser cutter, this classic mathematical idea becomes easy to create, observe, and expand into fun shapes and classroom activities.
