Key Information
Introduction
Are you still looking for a creative wooden craft project for your laser cutter?
Try making a wooden globe from 3mm plywood. Instead of looking at a flat map, this project turns geography into a hands-on 3D model.
With laser cutting and engraving, you can create detailed plywood parts, assemble them into a globe structure, and make a decorative piece for learning, display, or classroom use.
Before your work begins
Operational Process
Prepare & Position the Plywood
Prepare the 3mm plywood and place it flat on the laser working table.
Keep the plywood stable before cutting and engraving. The design should also be adjusted according to the actual type and size of the material before processing.
Import & Adjust the Design File
Draw or prepare the wooden globe design file in CorelDraw, then switch to the laser software using the laser plug-in.
Set the proper cutting and engraving parameters in the laser software, then click Download to transfer the design to your laser cutting machine.
Set the Correct Laser Focus
Move the laser head to the correct starting position and adjust the focal distance before cutting and engraving.
After focusing, press Origin on the control panel to set the starting position. Accurate focusing helps achieve cleaner plywood cutting and engraving results.
Frame the Design & Start Laser Cutting
Use the Frame function to check the working area and confirm that the wooden globe design stays within the plywood sheet.
Once everything is aligned, press Start to begin the laser job. Stay near the machine and monitor the cutting and engraving process carefully.
Post Processing
After cutting, collect all the plywood pieces and check that each part has been cut cleanly.
Assemble the wooden globe by hand and use glue to secure the parts where needed. Once assembled, the wooden globe is ready for display.
Come and Try!
A wooden globe is a creative way to turn a flat map idea into a 3D display object.
With a laser cutter, you can cut, engrave, and assemble plywood pieces into a globe model that is useful for decoration, learning, and creative display.
