Key Information
Introduction
Making an acrylic book stand with a laser cutter is a simple yet satisfying project.
With just an acrylic sheet and a heat gun, you can create a functional stand for books, tablets, artwork, or desk display.
This guide walks you through the full process, from importing the design file and cutting the acrylic to bending the final shape.
Before your work begins
Operational Process
Prepare & Position the Material
Prepare the acrylic board and place it flat on the laser bed. Make sure the surface is clean and stable so the engraved details and cut outline stay accurate.
Secure the acrylic if needed to prevent shifting during engraving and cutting, especially when processing the thin bending lines and decorative details.
Import & Adjust the Design File
Import the acrylic book stand design file into LightBurn, then adjust the size, position, engraving settings, and cutting settings according to your acrylic board.
Double-check the book stand outline, engraved details, and bending guide lines before starting. Make sure all elements fit within the acrylic sheet.
Set the Correct Laser Focus
Accurate focusing is important for achieving clean engraving and cutting on acrylic. If your machine has auto focus, use it for quick setup. For manual focusing, lower the laser head with the focus stick until it touches the acrylic surface at the correct angle.
Start Engraving & Cutting
Use the Frame function to outline the laser processing area. Make sure the projected frame matches your acrylic board and the book stand design stays within the material boundary.
Once everything is aligned, start the laser job. Stay near the machine while it’s running and monitor the engraving and cutting process carefully.
Post Processing
When the engraving and cutting are complete, carefully remove the acrylic piece from the laser bed.
Use a heat gun to warm the marked straight lines on both sides until the acrylic softens. Then bend the side patterns by 90 degrees and hold the shape until it sets. Your acrylic book stand is now complete.
Come and Try!
Your custom acrylic book stand is now complete. With clean laser cuts and crisp 90-degree bends, it is both practical and visually appealing.
Whether you use it to display books, tablets, artwork, or notes, this project shows how versatile laser cutting can be for everyday desktop organization.
