Engrave Picture on Leaf

Choosing a suitable leaf is the first step in successful leaf photo engraving. Look for an intact leaf with a relatively flat surface and enough space for your image. Broad leaves with fewer wrinkles are generally easier to position and focus on.

Avoid leaves that crumble easily, have damaged edges, or are too curled to lie flat. Prominent veins crossing the main image area may also affect the appearance of fine details. Fresh and dried leaves can respond differently during laser processing, so consider the leaf's actual condition rather than assuming one type always works best.

Gently remove loose dirt and surface moisture without damaging the leaf. Place it on a stable support and secure the edges with a suitable method, keeping the engraving area as flat as possible. Test the selected leaf before engraving your final design, as natural variations in thickness, moisture, and texture can affect the result.

Choose a clear photograph with a well-defined subject. Convert it to grayscale if needed, then adjust the brightness, contrast, and sharpness to make the important details easier to distinguish. Cropping unnecessary background elements can also help the main subject stand out.

Import the photo into your laser software and resize it to fit the usable area of the leaf. Position the design carefully, keeping important image details away from damaged areas and prominent veins where possible.

Photo engraving: Laser Engraving, Speed: 1000mm/s, Power: 30%, DPI: 200.

Line processing: Laser Lining, Speed: 6mm/s, Power: 70%.

These are the tested settings for this project. Leaf condition and image size can affect the final appearance, so check the setup when working with a different leaf or design.

Correct focus helps maintain consistent engraving detail. Since a real leaf may have an uneven surface, manual focusing is recommended for this project. Follow the machine's focusing procedure and position the focus stick carefully so you do not crush, bend, or damage the leaf.

Check that the leaf remains stable after focusing. If it shifts or the engraving area changes height, reposition the leaf and check the focus again before proceeding.

Use the Frame function to check the design's working area before engraving. Make sure the outline fits within the leaf boundary and that the photo is positioned as intended.

Once the position, focus, and parameters are confirmed, start the laser job. Stay near the machine and monitor the process throughout. Never leave the laser running unattended. If you notice unexpected flames, excessive smoke, or other abnormal behavior, stop the job and follow the machine's safety procedures.

Once the job is complete and the machine is safe to access, carefully remove the leaf from the laser bed. Handle it gently to avoid tearing or breaking the delicate material.

Check the photo's visible details, contrast, and alignment. The final appearance will depend on the photograph and the leaf's natural characteristics. Keep the finished leaf clean and dry, and handle it carefully to help preserve the result.
