Can’t wait to brighten your home with this living artwork? Follow the simple steps below and let the laser work its charm to craft a heartfelt memento you’ll cherish forever.

Before your work begins

Ensure ventilation and air assist are working properly
Confirm the machine is running smoothly and normally

Operational Process

STEP01

Prepare & Position the Material

Choose a maple leaf and place it on the laser honeycomb bed. The leaf should be as flat as possible and kept moderately dry for better engraving results.

Use painter’s tape or magnets to hold the leaf in place, making sure it does not shift during engraving.

STEP02

Import & Adjust the Design File

Import the custom pet portrait leaf design into LightBurn and check whether your leaf size is large enough for the engraving area.

Double-check the layout and decide whether you want to add or remove any design elements. Make sure the engraving parameters are set correctly before starting.

STEP03

Set the Correct Laser Focus

Accurate focusing is important for achieving clean engraving details on a natural leaf. If your machine has auto focus, use it for quick setup. For manual focusing, lower the laser head with the focus stick until it touches the leaf surface at the correct angle.

STEP04

Test the Laser Parameters

No two leaves are exactly alike, so test a small engraved square on your own leaf using the suggested settings before engraving the full portrait.

If the veins stay intact and the tissue is cleanly removed, the setting is suitable. If the veins break, the power may be too high; if too much leaf material remains, the power may be too low.

STEP05

Start Engraving

Use the Frame function to outline the laser engraving area. Make sure the projected frame matches your maple leaf and the design stays within the leaf boundary.

Once everything is aligned, start the laser job. Stay near the machine while it’s running and monitor the engraving progress carefully.
