Introduction

Are you still wondering what to make with your laser engraving machine?

Try customizing a cowhide notebook. Compared with paper or wood covers, cowhide gives the notebook a softer texture and a more tactile, premium feel.

By engraving words, names, or patterns onto the cowhide cover, you can turn an everyday notebook into a personal journal with a distinctive handmade touch.

Before your work begins

Clean the lens and mirrors
Check the laser head and nozzle for dust or buildup
Ensure ventilation and air assist are working properly
Confirm the machine is running smoothly and normally

Operational Process

STEP01

Prepare & Position the Notebook

Place the cowhide notebook flat on the laser bed and make sure the cover surface is clean.

Smooth and secure the notebook cover so it does not shift during engraving. This helps keep the text or pattern crisp and properly aligned.

STEP02

Import & Adjust the Design File

Import the cowhide notebook design file into LightBurn, then adjust the size, position, and engraving settings according to the notebook cover.

Check that the text or pattern is placed within the desired engraving area before starting the laser job.

Set the Correct Laser Focus

Accurate focusing is important for clean engraving on cowhide.

If your machine has auto focus, use it for quick setup. For manual focusing, lower the laser head with the focus stick until it touches the cowhide surface at the correct angle.

STEP04

Frame the Design and Start Laser Engraving

Use the Frame function to check the engraving area and confirm that the design stays within the notebook cover.

Once everything is aligned, start the laser engraving job. Stay near the machine and monitor the process to avoid excessive marking or heat buildup on the cowhide.

Complete the Task

After engraving, remove the notebook from the laser bed and check whether the engraved text or pattern is clear.

Gently wipe away any surface residue if needed. Your personalized cowhide notebook is now ready for writing, sketching, or gifting.
