Introduction

Still wondering what to make with your laser engraver?

If you love drawing, why not customize your colored pencils? Ordinary pencils can feel plain, but laser engraving makes them more personal and inspiring.

You can engrave names, mottos, small icons, or decorative patterns onto log pencils, turning simple drawing tools into personalized creative accessories.

Before your work begins

Clean the lens and mirrors
Check the laser head and nozzle for dust or buildup
Ensure ventilation and air assist are working properly
Confirm the machine is running smoothly and normally

Operational Process

STEP01

Prepare & Position the Material

Prepare the log pencils and place them securely on the laser bed. Since pencils are small and round, stable positioning is especially important for clean and consistent engraving.

Use suitable support or fixing tools to prevent the pencils from rolling during processing. Make sure the engraving area is facing upward and aligned with the design.

STEP02

Import & Adjust the Design File

Import the pencil engraving design file into LightBurn, then adjust the size, position, and engraving settings according to the pencil surface.

Keep the design compact and readable. Names, short mottos, icons, and simple decorative lines work especially well on pencil surfaces.

Set the Correct Laser Focus

Accurate focusing is important for achieving clear engraving on wood pencils. If your machine has auto focus, use it for quick setup. For manual focusing, lower the laser head with the focus stick until it touches the pencil surface at the correct angle.

STEP04

Start Engraving

Use the Frame function to check the engraving area and confirm that the design is correctly positioned on the pencil.

Once everything is aligned, start the laser engraving job. Stay near the machine and monitor the process to make sure the pencils remain stable.

Post Processing

When the engraving is complete, carefully remove the pencils from the laser bed.

Wipe away any light dust from the engraved surface. Painting it with pigment will make it look more beautiful. Your customized log pencils are now ready for drawing, gifting, classroom use, or creative branding.
