Introduction

Let’s craft a laser cutting wooden comb that feels like a hug in her hands this Mother’s Day!

Each tooth is gently shaped and smoothed, capturing the natural grains of the wood thanks to precise laser cuts. It’s more than a comb—it’s a daily reminder of your love and thoughtfulness.

Follow along and create a gift that Mom will reach for again and again!

Before your work begins

Clean the lens and mirrors
Check the laser head and nozzle for dust or buildup
Ensure ventilation and air assist are working properly
Confirm the machine is running smoothly and normally

Operational Process

STEP01

Prepare & Position the Material

Choose a flat hardwood board and place it on the laser honeycomb bed. Cherrywood is a good choice, but you can also choose any hardwood you like.

Make sure the board lies flat and stays stable during engraving and cutting. A flat surface helps the comb teeth cut smoothly and keeps the engraved details consistent.

STEP02

Import & Adjust the Design File

Import the laser cutting wooden comb design into LightBurn and check whether your hardwood board size is large enough.

Make sure the engraving and cutting parameters are set correctly. If the minimum power is too low, the corners may not cut through; if it is too high, the corners may look rough.

STEP03

Set the Correct Laser Focus

Accurate focusing is important for achieving clean engraving details and smooth cutting edges on hardwood. If your machine has auto focus, use it for quick setup. For manual focusing, lower the laser head with the focus stick until it touches the wood surface at the correct angle.

Start Engraving & Cutting

Use the Frame function to outline the engraving and cutting area. Make sure the projected frame matches your hardwood board and the design stays within the material boundary.

Once everything is aligned, start the laser job. Stay near the machine while it’s running and monitor the engraving and cutting progress carefully.

Post Processing

When the Mother’s Day comb laser cutting is complete, carefully remove it from the laser bed.

Clean it and dry it right away. Once finished, you’ll have a warm, thoughtful wooden comb ready to give as a meaningful Mother’s Day gift.
