Before your work begins

Clean the lens and mirrors
Check the laser head and nozzle for dust or buildup
Ensure ventilation and air assist are working properly
Confirm the machine is running smoothly and normally

Operational Process

STEP01

Prepare & Position the Material

Pick an opaque colored acrylic to be the base and handle of your portable mirror. Purple acrylic works beautifully for a sweet and stylish look, while mirror acrylic becomes the butterfly-shaped mirror at the center of the design.

Place the acrylic flat on the laser bed and make sure it stays secure. Use pins or magnets to prevent shifting during scoring and cutting.

STEP02

Import & Adjust the Design File

Import the butterfly mirror design into LightBurn and check whether your acrylic size is large enough. To help the mirror sit perfectly at the center of the base, keep a butterfly outline guide for easier alignment during assembly.

Double-check the file for misalignments or unnecessary overlaps. Make sure the scoring and cutting parameters are set correctly, especially the minimum power for clean corners.

Set the Correct Laser Focus

Accurate focusing is critical for achieving clean scoring lines and smooth cutting edges on acrylic. If your machine has auto focus, use it for quick setup. For manual focusing, lower the laser head with the focus stick until it touches the acrylic surface at the correct angle.

Start Scoring & Cutting

Use the Frame function to outline the scoring and cutting area. Make sure the projected frame matches your acrylic sheet and the design stays within the material boundary.

Once everything is aligned, start the laser job. Stay near the machine while it’s running and watch the cutting process. Keep an eye out for excessive smoke, alarms, or any movement of the material that could affect the result.

Post Processing

When the acrylic laser cutting is complete, carefully remove all pieces from the laser bed. Wipe away dust or residue before assembly.

Glue the mirror acrylic onto the base and align it with the outline. Then attach a chain to the end of the handle. Once everything is secured, your butterfly portable mirror is ready to use or gift.
