Operational Process
Prepare & Position the Material
Plywood boards are flexible, so make sure the sheet is flat before starting. Uneven material can affect both scoring alignment and cutting quality.
Place the plywood on the honeycomb bed and secure it with pins or magnets. Be mindful of the height of the pins or magnets so the sensor does not hit them during processing.
Import & Adjust the Design File
Import the ball-in-maze toy design into LightBurn and check whether your plywood size is large enough. For a design with many elements, make sure there are no misalignments or unnecessary overlaps.
Double-check the scoring and cutting parameters before starting. The scoring layer helps with alignment during gluing, while the cutting layer needs proper minimum power to keep the corners clean and fully cut.
Set the Correct Laser Focus
Accurate focusing is critical for achieving clean scoring lines and smooth cutting edges on plywood. If your machine has auto focus, use it for quick setup. For manual focusing, lower the laser head with the focus stick until it touches the plywood surface at the correct angle.
Start Scoring & Cutting
Use the Frame function to outline the scoring and cutting area. Make sure the projected frame matches your plywood sheet and the design stays within the material boundary.
Once everything is aligned, start the laser job. Stay near the machine while it’s running and watch the cutting process. Keep an eye out for excessive smoke, alarms, or any movement of the material that could affect the result.
Post Processing
When the laser cutting is complete, carefully remove the maze pieces from the laser bed. Lightly wipe away dust from the surface before assembly.
Glue the layers of the ball-in-maze toy together and make sure the paths align correctly. After assembly, clean the lens and autofocus sensor, especially after cutting plywood, to keep the laser engraver in good condition.
Come and Try!
Imagine children building focus and dexterity as they guide a tiny ball through the twists and turns of a laser cutting maze, with each pathway precisely crafted to challenge and delight.
Perfect for curious minds of all ages, laser cutting makes it easy to create mazes in a variety of shapes and difficulty levels. Whether used at home, in classrooms, or as creative gifts, these interactive mazes encourage learning through movement and bring joy with every roll.
