Introduction
Still pondering what to create with your laser machine?
Make a festive custom Christmas card. This project uses red and green as base colors, then engraves unique Christmas patterns and greetings onto the paperboard.
For an extra touch, the Christmas tree area is laser cut to create a pop-up 3D effect, turning a flat greeting card into a dimensional holiday keepsake.
Before your work begins
Operational Process
Prepare & Position the Material
Prepare the paperboard and place it flat on the laser bed. A clean, stable surface helps keep the engraved Christmas details clear and the pop-up cutting lines accurate.
Secure the paperboard gently if needed to prevent shifting during engraving and cutting, especially when working with thin pop-up structures and detailed greeting patterns.
Import & Adjust the Design File
Import the Christmas card design file into LightBurn, then adjust the size, position, engraving settings, and cutting settings according to your paperboard.
Double-check the engraved greetings, Christmas patterns, and pop-up tree cutting lines before starting. Make sure the design is aligned correctly with the card layers.
Set the Correct Laser Focus
Accurate focusing is important for achieving clean engraving and precise cutting on paperboard. If your machine has auto focus, use it for quick setup. For manual focusing, lower the laser head with the focus stick until it touches the paperboard surface at the correct angle.
Start Engraving & Cutting
Use the Frame function to outline the laser processing area. Make sure the projected frame matches your paperboard and the Christmas card design stays within the material boundary.
Once everything is aligned, start the laser job. Stay near the machine while it’s running and monitor the engraving and cutting process carefully.
Post Processing
When the engraving and cutting are complete, carefully remove the processed paperboard from the laser bed.
Apply glue evenly on the back of the processed paperboard, especially along the four edges. Then align it with the bottom piece and press it firmly to complete the Christmas card.
Come and Try!
Engraved snowflakes, Santa hats, reindeer, and presents enrich the holiday feeling, while the standing Christmas tree cutout adds extra depth.
With laser engraving and cutting, you can create more creative seasonal cards and turn a simple greeting into a thoughtful handmade tradition.
