Introduction

Wood is one of the most common crafting materials, making it ideal for both engraving and cutting projects.

This time, we mainly use laser cutting to create letter-shaped wooden lamps. Large letter forms, smaller patterns, and cut-out text work together to create a strong visual impact.

After adding LED strip lights inside the wooden structure, light shines through the pierced patterns and words, turning the letter shape into a glowing decorative lamp.

Before your work begins

Clean the lens and mirrors
Check the laser head and nozzle for dust or buildup
Ensure ventilation and air assist are working properly
Confirm the machine is running smoothly and normally

Operational Process

STEP01

Prepare & Position the Material

Prepare the pine wood board and place it flat on the laser bed. A clean, stable surface helps keep the letter outline and cut-out patterns accurate.

Secure the wood if needed to prevent shifting during cutting, especially when processing large letter shapes, small patterns, and narrow interior details.

STEP02

Import & Adjust the Design File

Import the alphabet-shaped lamp design file into LightBurn, then adjust the size, position, and cutting settings according to your pine wood board.

Double-check the large letter outline, small decorative patterns, and cut-out text before starting. Make sure all details fit within the usable wood area.

Set the Correct Laser Focus

Accurate focusing is important for achieving clean cutting edges on wood. If your machine has auto focus, use it for quick setup. For manual focusing, lower the laser head with the focus stick until it touches the wood surface at the correct angle.

Start Cutting

Use the Frame function to outline the laser cutting area. Make sure the projected frame matches your wood board and the lamp design stays within the material boundary.

Once everything is aligned, start the laser job. Stay near the machine while it’s running and monitor the cutting process carefully.

Post Processing

When the cutting is complete, carefully remove the wooden pieces from the laser bed.

Apply glue to the small wooden blocks and attach them evenly around the letter shape. Then apply glue beside the blocks, wrap the LED strip light around the inner structure, and secure it in place. Finally, apply glue to the other side of the blocks and attach the second wooden board to complete the letter-shaped lamp.
